Whatâs at stake
The Fulbright Program is the âflagship international academic exchange programâ of the United States. It has been the premier instrument of the United States to promote mutual understanding and academic and cultural exchange partnerships with over 155 countries all over the world for more than sixty years, and the positive impact the 325,000 alumni of the Fulbright Program have made has been and continues to be huge!
The Obama Administrationâs 2015 budget proposal for educational and cultural exchange programs had some good news and some really bad news. The good news was that it called for a 1.6% increase in the exchange budget to $ 578 million, and it budgeted $ 30 million for new and laudable initiatives to reach out to young leaders in the traditionally underserved regions of Africa and Asia. The bad news was that these new programs are being funded at the expense of the Fulbright Program which experienced a massive and unprecedented cut of $ 30 million to the $ 234 million Fulbright budget: a 13 % drop in the core funding of a program that serves the United States and a global community.
In a trillion dollar budget there must be some way to fund the new initiatives and to maintain the funding for the Fulbright Program!
#SaveFulbright by asking Congress to restore funding for the Fulbright Program! We need a $ 30 million increase in the 2015 educational and exchange budget allocated to Fulbright!

ÂŤThe World Of Nature And Problems Of Civilization In Contemporary American And European Culture And LiteratureÂť
Jeremy Braddock, in his Collecting as Modernist Practice, argues that the material collection and the anthology both be considered as an âauthored workâ and, following Bourdieu, a âsystem of positions.â The history of collecting and publishing in the 20th century â from Peggy Guggenheim to the Harry Ransom Center in Austin, TX â illustrates a widespread development and framing of how literary and cultural materials are received. Publishers, editors, librarians, and curators have all played a fundamental role in authoring and shaping the reception, preservation, and influence of textual and cultural objects.
Text Matters invites contributions to its 5th issue that analyze the construction and management of literary and cultural artifacts within the frame of archival or textual studies, as well as reception theory. Any articles dealing with art history, reception theory, the archive, and/or digital humanities that do not fit this theme are also welcome.

CALL FOR PAPERS 2014
Explorations: A Journal of Language and Literature is a peer-refereed online journal published by the Department of the English Language and the Department of English Language Literatures at Opole University, Poland (for more information and the current issue see http://www.explorations.uni.opole.pl). For the next issue of the journal, to be published in December 2014 we invite articles addressing language- and literature related topics in an original and innovative way. We welcome interdisciplinary approches ranging across lingustics, critical theory, and literary and cultural studies. Each submitted article will be peer-reviewed by academic experts selected from relevant fields of research.
Contributions are expected by June 30, 2014. Notifications of acceptance will be sent by September 30, 2014.

Publication on Alice Munro â Call for Papers
In Canada, Alice Munro has been known as â[their] Chekhovâ for years. However, when the writer was awarded 2013 Nobel Prize in Literature, James Wood of The New Yorker used the opportunity to take that moniker several steps further, calling Munro âthe English languageâs Chekhov.â Our publication seeks to investigate what makes Alice Munroâs writing so exceptional on contemporary literary scene. We look for contributions exploring various aspects of Munroâs body of work, viewed both on its own and in a comparative perspective. Articles dealing with Munroâs biography and its relation to her writing are also welcome.
Abstract submissions of 250-400 words should be sent to munro.essays.2014@gmail.com by 10th December 2013. Notifications of acceptance will be sent by 10th January 2014. Full articles (of between 20,000 and 40,000 characters including spaces) should be submitted by 30th April 2014. The collection will be published in the series âDis/Continuitiesâ by Peter Lang.

Lublin, familiar to the community of Pynchon scholars from International Pynchon Week 2010, invites readers to share their perspectives on Pynchonâs eagerly awaited new novel, Bleeding Edge. All are welcome: academics, students, critics, enthusiasts, artistsâŚ. The forum is open to those in all fields, from literature through cultural studies to the exact sciences, taking any critical or theoretical approach. While the focus will be on investigating Bleeding Edge, the organizers encourage a bleeding edge engagement with the forensic imagination interlacing all of Pynchonâs works. There is no participation fee.
All papers will be presented in plenary session. Each speaker will be allowed thirty minutes (including discussion).
Proposals/abstracts (in English) should not exceed 300 words. Responses to inquiries and notification of acceptance will be sent by e-mail.
